Graeme Johnston - Principal
Hi, my name is Graeme Johnston and I have been teaching since 1987. I trained as a Manual Arts teacher and I have taught full time at Slade School, Warwick, Southside Christian College Brisbane and Hillcrest Christian College, Gold Coast.
I believe schools should be good places for children to be - sounds simple, but this requires a well-balanced school to be a reality. Good schools are places where families, the Church and school staff work together to build a place that exists for the benefit of each student on campus. I like Christian schooling as it allows the whole person to be developed: mind, body and soul.
Before coming to Emerald I was a Deputy for two years and a Principal for 10 years and it is in this role that I have been able to develop school programs that provide young people with a full range of experiences, from the classroom to the outdoors. I expect every student to do well, with their academic efforts, their personal growth and their spiritual maturity.
I don't believe in 'also rans' - those students who did not make it. Paul told Timothy that he expected his youth to not be a disadvantage, but instead to be an example to others with his life (2 Tim 4:12). It is my intention that every student in this college can develop each part of their lives well, so that a great life beyond graduation is all the more certain, and perhaps the journey along the way can be one of note. We have been given a good life, let's make the most of every day.
Amy Noffke - Dean of Junior Years
Joel Chandler - Dean of Secondary
In my role I spend a large amount of time behind the scenes working towards making sure we are preparing our students for life whatever their skills or skill levels as well as assist teachers to improve practice and curriculum within the college. I am responsible for carrying out and reporting on academic evaluations including work with QCAA, report cards, data analysis, NAPLAN and Diagnostic testing.
I have always had a passion for teaching, and throughout high school and university I have been involved in teaching and tutoring students across a wide range of interests and abilities.
After working for several years in the Queensland electricity industry I decided to follow my first love, teaching Maths, Science and Technology. After completing teacher training, I worked in New South Wales as a Middle School Teacher for one year, until I escaped back to Queensland and worked as a Secondary Science, Maths and Technology teacher at Mackay Christian College for 3 years. I moved to Emerald Christian College in 2009.
I have a deep passion to see students push themselves to new limits and to discover the world that God has made.
Mary Deakin - Business Manager
I have been at ECC since September 2019. I was born and raised in western Queensland, but have been blessed to travel and work around Australia as well as overseas. I am qualified in accounting and business administration, completing a Masters in Business majoring in International Business. During my Masters I completed a student exchange in Beijing in China.
I have spent 19 years working in Local Government and Primary Health Care administration. In 2010 I went on a mission trip to Cambodia which was the catalyst for my desire to work overseas. I spent time working with disability at a national government level in Cambodia, business management at a trade training centre in Timor Leste and Human resources within Customs and Excise department in the Solomon Islands.
I have been a Christian for 30+ years and am excited to see what God has in store for my life and those around me. My favourite scripture has always been Isaiah 6:8 - Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “whom shall I send? And who will go for us/” and I said, “Here am I. Send me!”
